On a private trip we can plan lighter travel days, shorter drives and comfortable accommodation, and the Zagora desert is a shorter drive from Marrakech than Merzouga. The lead traveller must be at least 18, and children travel with a responsible adult who accepts the booking terms on their behalf.

Each traveller needs to be fit enough for the chosen activity. If anyone in your group has mobility or health needs, please contact us before booking so we can advise which trips suit you (see our accessibility statement).

    </details>

    <details class="faq">
QDo you organise Sahara desert tours?

Yes. Our Sahara desert tours go to the Erg Chebbi dunes near Merzouga and to the dunes of Zagora and Erg Chigaga. They are private, include desert-camp accommodation and licensed local guides, and tours from Marrakech include hotel pickup there. The road from Marrakech crosses the High Atlas, with stops such as the kasbah of Aït Benhaddou and Ouarzazate. Because they include a desert-camp night, these tours are confirmed with a 50% deposit.

The Agafay desert, about 45 minutes from Marrakech, is a rocky desert rather than the Sahara's sand dunes; we run day and evening activities there.

    </details>

    <details class="faq">
QHow long should a Sahara tour be?

Merzouga is about 8 to 9 hours by road from Marrakech, so we plan it as a trip of 3 days and 2 nights or longer, which breaks up the drive. Zagora is closer, and our shortest desert trip there is 2 days and 1 night. With more time, longer routes continue on to Fes or Chefchaouen.

    </details>

    <details class="faq">
QDo you offer hot-air balloon flights in Marrakech?

Yes. Our hot-air balloon flight takes off at sunrise near Marrakech and includes hotel pickup and return in Marrakech and a traditional Berber breakfast. Flights are flown by a licensed balloon operator, who decides whether the weather is safe to fly. If a flight is called off, we reschedule it; if no other date works for you, the amount paid for the flight is refunded in full.

    </details>

    <details class="faq">
QDo you offer airport transfers?

Yes. For Marrakech airport transfers, your driver waits in the arrivals hall at Menara Airport with a sign showing your name and takes you to your hotel or riad, or to the nearest medina gate. We confirm a fixed price per vehicle when you book and follow your flight, so the driver waits at no extra cost if your flight is delayed. Airport transfers require a 50% deposit. We also arrange private transfers between cities.

    </details>

    <details class="faq">
QWhat is included in the price? Are airport transfers included in tours?

The tour description lists what is included, and your written quote shows the exact amounts before you pay. Whether an airport pickup is included depends on the trip, so check the tour page or ask us; if it is not included, ask us about adding an airport transfer. Prices do not include personal travel insurance, international flights, visa fees, tips or anything not listed in the tour description.

    </details>

    <details class="faq">
QWhere will I stay?

Depending on the trip, in riads (traditional houses built around a courtyard), hotels and, on Sahara trips, desert camps. About a week lets you combine Marrakech with a Sahara trip, while 10 to 14 days gives time for the imperial cities, the Sahara and the Atlas Mountains, or the coast, without rushing. Our Morocco tours run from 2 to 15 days, and we can adapt them.

    </details>

    <details class="faq">
QCan you cater for dietary needs?

Please tell us about any dietary needs or allergies when you book. Vegetarian dishes are usually easy to find in Morocco. For strict diets or serious allergies, give us full details in advance, and always check with the staff before you eat.

    </details>

Travelling in Morocco

    <details class="faq">
QWhen is the best time to visit Morocco, and what is the climate like?

Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are mild across most of the country. Summer is very hot inland and in the desert, while the Atlantic coast stays cooler. Winter is mild on the coast but cold at night in the desert and in the Atlas Mountains, which can have snow. Everywhere, days and nights can differ a lot in temperature. March and April are also among our peak periods, so it is worth booking early.

    </details>

    <details class="faq">
QIs Morocco safe, including for solo and women travellers?

Morocco is a popular destination, and most visits go smoothly with the usual precautions you would take in any busy city: watch your belongings in crowded souks, avoid empty streets late at night, and use licensed guides and taxis. Solo and women travellers often find that modest clothing and a polite but firm "no, thank you" to unwanted offers help. Always check your own government's current travel advice before you go.

    </details>

    <details class="faq">
QDo I need a visa, and what documents should I bring?

Many nationalities can visit Morocco without a visa for short stays; others need one. The rules depend on your nationality and can change, so check with the Moroccan embassy or consulate in your country, or your government's official travel advice, before you book. You are responsible for your own passport, visa and travel documents.

Bring a passport that meets the validity rules for your nationality (check how long it must remain valid) and any visa you need. On arrival you go through passport control and customs, so keep your accommodation address and return ticket details at hand.

    </details>

    <details class="faq">
QDo I need vaccinations, and is malaria a risk?

Make sure your routine vaccinations are up to date, and ask your doctor or a travel clinic for advice based on your health and itinerary a few weeks before you travel. The World Health Organization certified Morocco malaria-free in 2010, but always follow your government's current travel health advice. Mosquito repellent is useful in the warmer months.

    </details>

    <details class="faq">
QWhat money should I bring? Cash, cards and ATMs

The local currency is the Moroccan dirham (MAD). Cards are accepted in many hotels, larger restaurants and shops, but you will need cash for taxis, markets, small cafés and tips. ATMs are common in cities and towns, and banks and exchange offices change euros, US dollars and other major currencies. Some tourist places accept euros or dollars in cash, usually at a poor rate, so paying in dirhams is better value. Our own tour prices are in US dollars and are paid as explained in the booking section above.

    </details>

    <details class="faq">
QHow does tipping work?

Tips are customary and appreciated, but always at your discretion. Many travellers leave a little extra in cafés and restaurants and tip guides, drivers and porters for good service. Tips are not included in our prices.

    </details>

    <details class="faq">
QIs Morocco expensive?

Costs vary widely with the season, the city and your travel style. Street food, local transport and markets are inexpensive, while riads, private guides and desert camps range from simple to high-end. Our tour prices are shown on each tour page, and your quote shows the exact total before you pay.

    </details>

    <details class="faq">
QIs haggling expected in markets?

Yes, bargaining is normal in souks and markets, less so in shops with marked prices. Stay friendly, agree on the price before you buy, and don't feel obliged to buy.

    </details>

    <details class="faq">
QWhat languages are spoken?

Arabic and Amazigh (Berber) are the official languages, and Moroccan Arabic (Darija) is spoken day to day. French is widely used, and English is common in tourism. A few words such as "salam" (hello) and "shukran" (thank you) are always appreciated.

    </details>

    <details class="faq">
QWhat does "medina" mean?

The medina is the historic old town of a Moroccan city, usually walled, with narrow lanes, souks, mosques and riads. Many lanes are too narrow for cars, so expect to walk the last part of the way to a riad in the medina.

    </details>

    <details class="faq">
QCan I use my phone and the internet?

Yes. Coverage is good in cities and along main roads, and patchier in remote mountain and desert areas. An unlocked phone works with a local prepaid SIM card from Maroc Telecom, Orange or inwi, sold at airport kiosks and phone shops (you will usually need your passport). Otherwise, check your roaming charges before you travel. Useful apps include offline maps, a translation app and the ONCF app for train tickets.

    </details>

    <details class="faq">
QWhat should I wear?

Light, comfortable clothes, plus a warm layer for cool evenings. Covering shoulders and knees is respectful in medinas, villages and religious sites, and helps you feel at ease. Comfortable walking shoes are a must for medina lanes.

    </details>

    <details class="faq">
QWhat should I pack for the desert and the mountains?

A warm layer for the nights, a sun hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, a scarf against sand and wind, sturdy shoes and a reusable water bottle.

    </details>

    <details class="faq">
QWhat is Moroccan food like, and when do people eat?

Expect tagines, couscous, pastilla, grilled meats, fresh salads, bread and mint tea. Food is well spiced but rarely very hot. Lunch is usually eaten in the early afternoon, and dinner often late, around 8 pm or later.

    </details>

    <details class="faq">
QIs tap water safe to drink?

Tap water quality varies by region, so most visitors drink sealed bottled water or filtered water, which is widely available.

    </details>

    <details class="faq">
QIs alcohol available?

Yes, in licensed hotels, restaurants and bars, and in some shops. Availability varies by city and venue and is more limited during Ramadan. Do not drink alcohol in the street or other public places.

    </details>

    <details class="faq">
QCan I travel during Ramadan?

Yes. Sites and most services stay open, sometimes with shorter hours. Days are quieter, as many people fast from dawn to sunset, and evenings are lively once the fast is broken. Please avoid eating, drinking or smoking openly in the street during the day. Ramadan dates move each year, and the Eid al-Fitr holiday that ends it falls within our peak periods.

    </details>

    <details class="faq">
QCan non-Muslims visit mosques?

Most mosques in Morocco are closed to non-Muslims. The best-known exception is the Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca, which offers guided visits. You can still admire many mosques from outside, and several historic madrasas (Koranic schools) are open to visitors.

    </details>

    <details class="faq">
QAre museums and monuments open every day?

Most are open daily, but hours vary, and some close on certain days, on religious holidays or for restoration. Check official websites or ask us before you go.

    </details>

    <details class="faq">
QHow do I get around Morocco?

Between cities, ONCF trains link Tangier, Rabat, Casablanca, Fes and Marrakech, and CTM and Supratours buses cover the main routes. In cities, use petits taxis (ask for the meter or agree on the fare first), the trams in Casablanca and Rabat, or walk in the medinas. For the Atlas Mountains and the desert, a private driver is the easiest option; we arrange private transfers across Morocco.

    </details>

    <details class="faq">
QWhat are the must-see places?

Marrakech, Fes, Chefchaouen, the Sahara dunes of Merzouga (Erg Chebbi) and Zagora, the Atlas Mountains, the kasbah of Aït Benhaddou, Essaouira on the Atlantic coast, and the Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca.

    </details>

    <details class="faq">
QCan I combine Morocco with Spain or Portugal?

Yes. Short flights connect Moroccan cities with Spain and Portugal, and ferries cross the Strait of Gibraltar between southern Spain and Tangier. Check current schedules with the airlines and ferry companies.

    </details>

    <details class="faq">
QWhich festivals and events are worth planning around?

Popular events include the Fes Festival of World Sacred Music, the Gnaoua World Music Festival in Essaouira, Mawazine in Rabat and the Marrakech International Film Festival. Dates change every year, so check the official festival websites.

    </details>

    <details class="faq">
QWhat are the toilets like?

You will find both Western-style and squat toilets. For public toilets, carry tissues, hand sanitiser and a few coins, as an attendant may ask for a small tip.

    </details>

    <details class="faq">
QWhere is Morocco?

In north-west Africa, with coastlines on the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. Spain lies just across the Strait of Gibraltar, about 14 km away at its narrowest point.

    </details>

Tip: entry rules, health advice and opening hours can change, so always check official sources before you travel.

    Chat with us on WhatsApp

Help Help and frequently asked questions Booking, payment and cancellations QWho organises your tours?
